To be the World's Best Airport by Exceeding Customer Expectations.
Office of the General Manager
Benjamin DeCosta, General Manager
The City of Atlanta's Department of Aviation is responsible for the operation of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The General Manager of Aviation directs its activity. The Airport is classified as a large hub by the Federal Aviation Administration and is the principal air carrier airport serving Georgia and the Southeastern United States. It also serves as a primary transfer point in the national air transportation system. The Airport occupies a 3,750 acre site in Clayton and Fulton counties, Georgia, about 10 miles by road south of downtown Atlanta. In 2002, more than 76 million passengers were processed at the Airport, making it the busiest passenger airport in the world. Atlanta is a connecting hub for Delta Air Lines, Inc. and Airtran Airways. This has resulted in a large number of destination offerings to and from Atlanta as compared to other similarly sized communities, as well as significant economic benefit for the region.
