  • The goal of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department is to provide a smoke detector in every home in Atlanta. This service is provided free of charge. Please feel free to click on the ASAP logo to the left and complete a request for a smoke detector installation. After completing this application a member of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department will contact you to schedule an in home installation.

    This program serves to enhance the quality customer services that you deserve from the Atlanta Fire-Rescue Department.The services rendered under this program will be provided to you at no cost by a group of professionally trained facilitators.                                           
    This training will further enhance your knowledge, skills, and abilities of emergency preparedness. It will enable you to become self-sufficient should an emergency or disaster occur that prevents or delays the response of professional emergency workers.The ACERT training program prepares thousands of Atlanta residents and workers to help themselves and others for up to 72 hours following a natural disaster or catastrophic event. As a team member, you will learn to apply basic skills to help sustain and save lives until help finally arrives.

    Office of the Fire Chief
    Kelvin J. Cochran, Fire Chief
    The Fire Chief's Office is responsible for the overall operation and direction of the Atlanta Fire Department through the implementation of the agency's strategic plan.
    The office also ensures that the plan's objectives are proactive and consistent with the City of Atlanta's mission, vision and values.The office consists of the Office Assistant, Executive Secretary, Fire Chief's Aid, the Chaplain and the Public Information Officer. The Office of Professional Standards is a section within the Office of the Fire Chief and is responsible for background investigations, internal affairs, advocacy and recruitment.

    Administration
    W.A. Meadows,  Deputy Chief
    The Administration Division provides services four areas: Fiscal Management, Human Resources, Information Systems and Grants Development and Management.

    These operations include the submittal and management of the department’s annual budget and related transactions, accounts payable, procurement services, central receiving and inventory control initiatives.

    The division is also responsible for human resource management, including personnel records management and payroll services; and management information systems for departmental enhancements.

    Other services include the compilation and submission of the department’s management plan, capital improvement plan and community development plan; and grants development and management functions for the acquisition of additional funds and resources to augment the department’s service base.

    Technical Services
    Huley B. Dodson, Deputy Chief
    This division monitors fire code enforcement, fire inspections, fire safety education and fire investigations. This division includes the Fire Marshal’s Office, Fire Prevention and Education, Training, Communications and the maintenance of all real property, including design and upkeep of the fire stations and apparatus. Technical Services is responsible for all areas of the Fire Department that do not include operations or administration.

    Operations
    B. Nishiyama Willis, Deputy Chief
    The Atlanta Fire Department’s Operations Division is responsible for responding and mitigating disastrous incidents within the City from 30 fire stations.  The agency handles an average 125 incidents per day including Fires, Hazardous Materials calls, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services Alarms and Homeland Security Responses/Planning.

    The Office of Special Operations is a part of this Division and handles the planning of Special Events and Emergency Medical Services.

    Airport Fire Administration
    Tony Davidson, Deputy Chief
    The Airport Fire Service's mission is to prevent disastrous incidents from occurring and to minimize damage to life, property and the environment in the event that a disastrous incident should occur.  The Airport Fire Service consists of 208 employees, 202 sworn firefighters and 6 civilian employees. We provide aircraft fire protection, structural fire protection, Emergency Medical Services protection, and Hazardous Materials/Special Rescue Response protection to the traveling public and employees of Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport. The fire service also operates and oversees the largest automatic defibrillator program in the country.

    Applications for Firefighter employment will be accepted starting on Janurary 1 thru Janurary 31, 2007. The applications must be turned into the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency. To get more information, click here
