Message to DPRCA Athletic Field Stakeholders

As many of you know, through the 2005 Opportunity Bond, the City of Atlanta has invested over $6M in athletic field renovations. The scope of the project included major renovation or recovery as well as irrigation system installation of 45 ball fields throughout Atlanta.  According to plan announced February 2007, the re-sodded fields opened for use August 15, 2007.  We expect to open the recovery (seeded) fields by March 15, 2008.

We are pleased to announce that we have received great feedback from residents and groups that are once again using our fields in their much improved conditionIn addition to the fact that this was a major investment of taxpayer dollars, this was also the first time in our City’s history that such a major commitment has been made to our athletic fields. As such, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs wants to ensure that we are all working together to protect our $6M investment.  The contractor has committed to maintaining the fields for one year and we are asking our athletic field users to make a commitment as well.  Athletic Field Policies and Procedures Brochure have been put in place to ensure that our athletic fields are well maintained during the warranty period and for many years thereafter.

DPRCA welcomes the community’s involvement and encourage you to click on the link below (Athletic Field Policies and Procedures) to review the policies and procedures carefully.  Additionally, you are encouraged to share copies of the brochure throughout the community.  If you have any questions or to request copies of the Athletic Field Policies and Procedures brochure, please call  (404) 817-6788.
