Pre-Trial release program

The function of the Pretrial Release Program is to assist in the city's effort to assure the safety of the community by providing critical support and information to branches of the judicial system. The Pretrial Release Program performs a wide range of services for Municipal Court, Atlanta Department of Corrections and a variety of multi-jurisdictional entities. There are four primary programs available through this office:

  • Self Bond Release - Authorized by a Judge to eligible person in court charged with a felony, misdemeanor, and traffic or city ordinance violation.
  • Recognizance Release - Offered to eligible person in jail charged with certain misdemeanor, traffic or city ordinance violations.
  • Release - Eligibility for release is based on the type of offense, criminal history, family and community ties, the risk of flight, and community safety. The cases are closely monitored by Case Managers.
  • Criminal History Research - A profile of criminal history, warrants, parole and probation notices and arrest patterns created by researching local, state and national databases. These profiles are used for traffic, and municipal court session and weekend Bond Hearings.
