Atlanta Firefighters & SCANA Energy Team up to Keep Atlanta’s Elderly Cool in the Summer Heat
2007 is the sixth consecutive of the year of the Atlanta Fan Giveaway

Mayor Shirley Franklin, SCANA Energy and Atlanta’s Bravest are teaming up for the sixth consecutive year in an effort to ensure that Atlanta’s elderly have a safe and cool summer.

Summer is here and as history has always held in the South… the HOT and humid days and nights back again. Interim Fire Chief Harold D. Miller says, “It is important to remember that the elderly suffer from heat related illnesses at a disproportionate rate when compared to younger individuals in the same environment”.  SCANA Energy has, once again, stepped up to the plate and hit another Home Run by donating 1,000 fans to Mayor Franklin and Atlanta Fire Rescue Department to distribute to low-income elderly residents to aide them in maintaining cooler temperatures in their homes.

"As part of SCANA Energy's ongoing commitment to serve its communities in Atlanta and throughout Georgia, we are pleased to donate one thousand fans again this year to provide much needed cooling relief for our most vulnerable citizens", said George Devlin, vice president and general manager of SCANA Energy.  "We are honored to celebrate our sixth year of partnership with Mayor Shirley Franklin and the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, and look forward to finding additional ways to help those in need".

Join us on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. as we host a press conference to kick off the weeklong “Help Atlanta’s Elderly Stay Cool Campaign” Fan Give-away at Fire Station # 4.  The station is located at 309 Edgewood Avenue, at the corner of Edgewood and Fort Streets.

Fire Chief Harold D. Miller says, “The fans donated by SCANA Energy will be distributed on a first-come, first served basis. Senior Citizens may call 404.330.6026. Recipients must provide their name and address and they will be scheduled to pick a fan up from their closest Fire Station”.
