Future land use maps are adopted by Atlanta City Council as part of the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) and serve as an overall guide to land development within the city during the next fifteen years. They also serve as a guide for rezonings. A property cannot be changed from its current zoning classification to one that is incompatible with its future land use designation according to the table below. If a landowner desires such a change, he or she must apply to have the future land use maps amended before the rezoning can proceed.
Zoning/Future Land Use Compatibility Table - Shows which current zoning classifications are compatible with each future land use designation. Zoning classifications regulate the current or short-term use and development of land, while the more general future land use designations address the planned use and development of the land during the next fifteen years. This table is taken from section 20, page 13 of the Comprehensive Development Plan.
Future land use maps are available for each neighborhood planning unit (NPU). Click on the NPU in the map below to see the corresponding future land use map.
