Background

Summerhill and Peoplestown developed their redevelopment plan in 1993 and 1996 respectively. Recently, the community recognized the need to evaluate and update the existing plans so as to reflect changes and address emerging issues and needs in the neighborhoods.  With this in mind, the Neighborhoods, working in collaboration with NPU-V, are developing a neighborhood public participation process to solicit input and update the plan in terms of land use, zoning, design standards, traffic, and transportation.

Summerhill and Peoplestown are part of the Stadium Neighborhoods (including Summerhill, Peoplestown, Mechanicsvill, and Pittsburgh) Economic Development Priority (EDP) area identified through the Mayor's New Century Economic Development Plan. To facilitate the development of EDP areas, the City saw the needs of updating plans in these areas. For Summerhill and Peoplestown, the need identified was to update the land use, zoning plans and define development opportunities for available sites.

With the above context, the neighborhoods, NPU-V and City's Bureau of Planning worked together from October 2005 to April 2006 to develop updated plans for the neighborhoods.
