Mayor Kasim Reed to Attend Demolition of Blighted Properties along
Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive

 WHAT:

Mayor Kasim Reed will join Atlanta City Councilmember C.T. Martin, Police Chief George Turner and others for the demolition of two major derelict properties along Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive on Thursday.

Built in 1961, Essex Court Apartments, located at 1991 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and an adjacent property at 1999 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive have been havens for criminal activity and an eyesore in the community with more than 30 code violations since 2003.

Under Mayor Reed’s leadership, the City of Atlanta has placed an emphasis on code enforcement, with a specific focus on targeting vacant, blighted properties. Thursday’s demolition is being paid for by the new owners of the properties.
