Fairburn Road Bridge Opens Today
Bridge opens five months ahead of schedule

ATLANTA - The Department of Public Works is pleased to announce that the Fairburn Road Bridge over the CSX Railroad will be reopened to all traffic beginning today. The bridge was closed in January 2012 and has been replaced by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The bridge opening comes five months ahead of the projected year-end completion date.

The bridge is located near North Camp Creek Parkway in southwest Atlanta, Council District 11. The all-timber bridge structure was originally constructed in the late 1930s and had deteriorated over time. GDOT funded a replacement bridge, built to modern standards including replacing the timber deck planks and handrail posts.

The cost for replacement of the Fairburn Road Bridge was approximately $1M. “The project was listed as a priority in the City’s Infrastructure Replacement Plan and we are pleased to have it reopened for the community,” said Richard Mendoza, Commissioner, Department of Public Works.
