Statement on the U.S. District Court Decision to Amend the First Amended Consent Decree
ATLANTA – “Today’s ruling on extending the Consent Decree is a big win for Atlanta’s ratepayers,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “This extension will allow us additional time to finish necessary repairs to our sewer system while also keeping our water and sewer rates flat. The tremendous work of my Administration, the City Council, and my predecessor Mayor Shirley Franklin have all been instrumental in getting us to this point. I am also grateful to the Court for its decision and all of our partners for their continued support.”
“The City of Atlanta commends the efforts of all the agencies and stakeholders in working together to reach a mutually acceptable amendment to the Consent Decree. We look forward to continuing the positive working relationship with all parties as the city completes the remaining projects under the Consent Decree,” said City Attorney Cathy Hampton.
