Overview
Within the Office of Planning the Transportation Planning Division serves in leading and coordinating transportation planning efforts for the City of Atlanta. This division oversees the development and implementation of the Connect Atlanta Plan, the City of Atlanta first comprehensive transportation plan.
This division also coordinates project development activities with Department of Public Works, Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), Georgia Regional Transit Authority (GRTA), Georgia Department of Transportation and community improvement districts in planning, design and implementation of transportation facilities and services. The Transportation Planning Division played a large role in the submission of the successful TIGER II grant application for the Atlanta Streetcar, supported the development of ARC’s PLAN 2040 Report, and supports the development of a new Downtown Multimodal Passenger Terminal.
Current Activities

Coordinate with Mayor’s Office and citywide stakeholders on the development of a timeline, criteria and project list for the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 local funding.

Assist with citywide educational campaign for Transportation Investment Act of 2010.

Completion of the West Lake and Bankhead LCI Plan updates.

Assist in the design and implementation of the Atlanta Streetcar Project

Develop corridor specific bicycle facility plans based on Connect Atlanta Core Connections.

Development of a Transit Oriented Development Strategic Plan.

Implement elements of the Connect Atlanta plan through various programs and projects.

Coordinate with Department of Public Works and Department of Watershed Management to implement funded Livable Centers Initiative and other grant-funded transportation projects.
