10/30/09 City of Atlanta will receive an additional 27 CNG shuttles for a total of 40 at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport as part of the Clean Cities grant from the Department of Energy. The $15M award will also fund clean vehicles for corporations like UPS and Coca Cola benefiting the environmental efforts for Atlanta.
10/30/09 City of Atlanta leads ARRA efforts in comparable cities according to a recent study by the Office of Policy and Management at the City of Seattle.  See findings from the study summarized here.
10/20/09 The Center for Working Families applied for the Pathways Out of Poverty grant from Department of Labor to develop training programs in energy efficiency and materials management.  As part of the application, Atlanta Workforce Development Agency will received $450K to provide GED preparation and computer training to 150 program participants
10/13/09 Georgia Department of Transportation allocated $11.6M to the City of Atlanta for three infrastructure projects: 14th Street Streetscapes, Downtown Atlanta Pedestrian Improvements - Marietta Street and Midtown Atlanta Signal & Intersection Improvements.  These projects are expected to start in Q1 2010.
09/29/09 Georgia Technology Authority will review all Wireless and Broadband applications from the state and provide recommendations to NTIA on October 14th.  The City of Atlanta video surveillance program is one of the applicants for the award scheduled for announcement at end of October.
09/29/09 The City of Atlanta submitted an application for the Pathways Out of Poverty grant from the Department of Labor. This grant will be used to train workers in energy efficiency and materials management with a focus on NPU-V neighborhoods.
09/22/09 The City of Atlanta, in partnership with Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, Midtown Improvement District and MARTA, submitted an application for the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant to build a 9.7-track-mile modern streetcar system. 08/26/09 Department of Energy awarded a $15M Clean Cities Grant for an Alternative Fuel and Advanced Technology Vehicle Project. The City will receive 13 CNG shuttles at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport as a part of a public and private partnership applying for this grant.
08/18/09 The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs will apply for the Broadband Technology Opportunities Programs Grant from the Department of Commerce to enable public broadband access to view and register for recreational programs at all facilities.
08/18/09 The Atlanta Police Department will apply for the Wireless & Broadband Grants from NTIA to install a digital surveillance system and reduce crime.
08/05/09 The Office of Sustainability will apply with Cobb Housing for Green Capacity Building grant from the Department of Labor to support the Youthbuild Energy Efficiency Program.
08/04/09 The Department of Energy announced three new grants in the areas of Emergency Preparedness, Community Renewal Energy and Combined Heat and Biomass Energy. The Office of Sustainability is coordinating the effort to evaluate each grant and prepare for applications
07/28/09 The Department of Energy awarded City of Atlanta a $250K planning grant to further develop programs for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.
07/28/09 The Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (“COPS”) awarded the Atlanta Police Department $11MM to fund 50 officer positions over the next 3 years through the federal agency’s COPS Hiring Recovery Program
07/22/09 Federal Aviation Administration awarded an additional $5MM to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (under the Airport Improvement Program) to build an apron for aircraft loading, unloading and maintenance.
07/22/09 The Department of Planning & Community Development has partnered with the ADA and ANDP Team to submit its $58MM application to the Neighborhood Stabilization Program to rehab and redevelop local single- and multi-family properties
07/17/09 The City will apply for $58MM through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program to support acquisition, renovation, redevelopment and/or disposition of single-family & multi-family housing units

07/02/09 HUD review completed for the City’s Homeless Assistance Grants application. Application recommended 20 service projects and 1 admin project in Homeless Prevent and Rapid Re-housing Services

Office of Sustainability will develop project plans with partner organizations (AWDA, GEFA, Center for Working Families, Governor's Office) and apply for energy efficiency and renewable energy related training programs for high skilled workers

06/22/09 The City will apply for $4.6MM through three Byrne Justice Assistance Grant projects: Comprehensive Community-Based Data-Driven Approaches to Preventing and Reducing Violent Crime, Improving Resources and Services for Victims of Crime, and Supporting Problem-Solving Courts
06/09/09 The City will apply for $36MM from Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to support the Aviation Explosive Detection Systems project at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

05/18/09 DERA (Energy & Environment) grant application was denied by the EPA due to overwhelming competition;  the City of Atlanta team will meet with the EPA in June to discuss our application
05/17/09 US Department of Transportation released guidelines for Surface Transportation grant. City will apply for $300MM for the Peachtree Streetcar project
05/13/09 The City will apply with Nissan for $1.8MM through the Transportation Electrification program to place plug-in electric vehicles in the city fleet
05/12/09 The City has been allocated $3.5MM from the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (Public Safety) which will be used to hire 46 entry-level police officers
