Rebuild Atlanta Initiative

Since early 2004, the City of Atlanta Energy Conservation Program has conducted energy audits on nine city-owned facilities totaling nearly one million square feet through the Rebuild Atlanta Initiative.  The audits focused on identifying energy saving opportunities in these buildings that ranged from the 600,000 square foot Atlanta Detention Center to recreation centers to police precincts.  Below are reports from each of these audits that describe the energy efficiency recommendations.  Together with facility managers, the Energy Conservation Program will work to implement many of these in 2005.

The following resources are provided to enable Atlanta’s facility managers to improve energy efficiency in city buildings.

ENERGY STAR Website

When purchasing new energy using products and equipment, make sure to specify ENERGY STAR to get the best long-term value and performance.  In addition to best in class energy consumption, ENERGY STAR qualified products often have warrantees that exceed industry standards.

Energy Evaluations & Troubleshooting

Not sure why your facility is using more energy than normal?  The answer might be in one of these resources.  View the Equipment Performance & Troubleshooting checklist in Appendix D of this guide.

For more in-depth analysis, review the Best Practices described here.

Preventative & Periodic Maintenance

Consider developing a preventative maintenance schedule like the one described on pages 6-8 of this guide.
