City Hall Energy Conservation Pilot Project
The City of Atlanta is phasing the next step of the Pilot Project. The Office of General Services is currently installing motion sensors in conference rooms throughout City Hall. These devices turn off the lights automatically when no one is in the room and turn them on when they sense movement, saving the energy used for lighting which can be up to 20% of City Hall’s electricity bill.

Sustainable Development Design Standards
In December 2003, City Council passed Atlanta’s sustainable design standards that require new City buildings to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly, while also saving taxpayers’ money. Atlanta’s standards are based on the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) guidelines and require a Silver rating for new city buildings that meet certain criteria. Watch as Atlanta becomes a cleaner and greener city!
