Atlanta International School Students Adopt Road as part of Keep Atlanta Beautiful Project

Keep Atlanta Beautiful, formerly Atlanta Clean City Commission, has approved the adoption of North Fulton Drive in Buckhead by Atlanta International School’s 8th grade students. The students will begin their new project on Tuesday, January 20 at 10:20 a.m., by cleaning the stretch of North Fulton Drive that winds from Peachtree Avenue through the end of the school property to Peachtree Road. Ms. Kirstin Allen, Executive Director of Keep Atlanta Beautiful, will officiate at this first session by making a video presentation to the 70 students before they move outside to start the clean-up.

Keep Atlanta Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc., was created in 1976 under Mayor Maynard Jackson's administration to tackle the issues of litter prevention and environmental awareness on a citywide basis. The program offers an incentive to AIS students who seek avenues to fulfill their Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) requirement. CAS is an integral part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma program, and is designed to foster caring and socially responsible attitudes through participation in activities that develop social and creative activities such as environmental protection, and other service-centered activities. This Adopt-A-Road project will be taken up by consecutive 8th grade classes each school year to ensure that North Fulton Drive remains litter-free.
