MAYOR FRANKLIN NAMES COMMISSIONER
OF PUBLIC WORKS NOMINEE


ATLANTA -- Mayor Shirley Franklin, today announced that David Scott is her nominee for the next Commissioner of Public Works for Atlanta. Scott has distinguished himself in the area of engineering and has been recognized as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Young Civil Engineer of the Year.Scott currently serves as Vice President of Metcalf & Eddy, an engineering firm in Baltimore, Maryland, where he works in partnership with clients, providing services on projects including vulnerability assessment, protection, treatment and distribution of water; collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater; transit and transportation systems, and emergency response.


Mayor Franklin says, “David’s experience, industry knowledge and academic achievements make him a highly qualified candidate to serve as Commissioner of Public Works for the City of Atlanta. We are excited about him joining our team and look forward to him leading the Department of Public Works to the status of best in class.”

Prior to his current position, Scott served as Deputy Mayor for Operations for the City of Baltimore, Maryland. He was responsible for the oversight of the departments of Public Works, Recreation and Parks, Fire and certain functions of Police. He has also served as Deputy City Engineer for the City of Highland Park, Illinois, where he was the primary contact for the City on all engineering issues. In his early career, Scott held managerial positions within the Department of Public Works for the City of Baltimore and was responsible for the design and construction of many projects.Scott is a graduate of the University of Maryland where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and a Master of Professional Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer with licenses in the states of Maryland, Illinois and Florida.In accepting the appointment, Scott said, “I am extremely excited about being a part of this great city and I look forward to working with Mayor Franklin, the employees in the Department of Public Works, and all the residents of Atlanta to make this a world class city."

The recommendation will be presented to the appropriate committees the week of June 9th. Should the recommendation pass the committees, it will go to the full council on June 16th.”
