· The City of Atlanta has developed a plan with a preventive
approach to deal with the anticipated volume of rain
- The coordinating departments involved in the effort are:
Mayor’s Office; Watershed; Public Works; Parks, Recreation
& Cultural Affairs; Aviation; Information Technology; Finance;
and the Atlanta Police and Atlanta Fire departments
- The City will be working in conjunction with the Atlanta Fulton
Emergency Management Agency (AFEMA) and will be
staffing the center beginning Thursday at 11:00 am.
- In areas where power outages occur, there will be increased
police patrols in residential and commercial areas
- City crews have been out this week inspecting flooding "hot
spots" and cleaning storm drains as needed. The City's
emergency crews will be on the job 24 hours a day during
the storm
MESSAGES TO THE PUBLIC:
Be mindful of flash flooding risks- flash flood warnings have been
issued for metro Atlanta. Do not drive through standing water.
- Be safe and patient while driving or out traveling in inclement
weather.
· Change Batteries in Smoke Alarms. Alarms should be
operable in case lightning strikes your house and starts a
fire.
· If power lines fall on your home, do not exit your home.
There may be live fields outside your home that you are
not aware of. Call 911 immediately.
· If power lines fall on your vehicle, and you are in your
vehicle, do not exit the vehicle. Call 911 immediately.
- When calling 911, for non-emergency situations, please allow
extra time for service to arrive.
- When approaching intersections where the traffic signals are
not working, treat the intersection as a four-way stop
- At those intersections where there is a flashing signal, the
flashing red is to be regarded as a stop sign. At a flashing
yellow signal, please proceed with caution
- Solid waste collection may be interrupted as a result of the
storm.
- To prevent clogged storm drains, move trash or yard waste
away from the curbs or sidewalks so that it will not wash
down into the drains.
- Operations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
are currently normal and the airport is open at this time.

- Due to Hurricane Ivan, some airlines serving Atlanta are
adjusting their flight schedules and have suspended or
canceled air service to cities in the path of the storm system.
- Contact your airline directly before coming to airport to check
status of your flight.

www.atlanta-airport.com to check the status of an arriving
or departing Atlanta flight.City Hall will remain open. Updated
messages on the status of the inclement weather conditions
and how to access emergency city services will be available
on the city website, www.atlantaga.gov, and broadcast on the
City Cable Channel 26.
