The City of Atlanta is honored to have the opportunity to have the late former Mayor Maynard Holbrook Jackson, Jr. grace the halls of Atlanta City Hall one more time on Thursday, June 26th from 12 Noon to 8:00 pm. The body will lie in state in the City Council Chamber at 55 Trinity Avenue. Persons wishing to view the body should enter City Hall on the Mitchell Street side of the building.
In order to avoid delays in passing through the security checkpoints, the public will not be allowed to bring packages or flowers into the building. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation.
Media Access
Parking - Media parking will be available on a first-come -first serve basis in the far right lane of Washington Street. Any illegal parking will result in towing at your expense.
Credentials - Media credentials will be handed out in the front entrance of City Hall on the Trinity Street side beginning at 11:15 am (please note the change in time from previously issued 11:45 am). The credentials will cover entrance to the events over the next three days at City Hall, Morehouse College and the Civic Center.
For security reasons, credentials will be issued individually and not in groups. All persons requesting credentials for “Remembering The Honorable Maynard Holbrook Jackson, Jr. Events” must show state certified media identification.
Press Room - The bid room of the Department of Procurement, Suite 1900 has been set-aside as the press operations room for Thursday. Access will be allowed to credentialed media only.
Media access to Council Chamber - The remains of The Honorable Maynard Holbrook Jackson, Jr. will lie in state in the City Council Chamber. Media will be allowed to access the room from 11:15 am to 12 noon. At that time, media will be asked to vacate the area and the remains will be opened for public viewing. No cameras will be allowed in the Chamber after that time.
A pool camera will be placed on the 3rd floor facing the doors of the Council Chamber.
Revision 2:There will be two live feeds from inside the Council Chamber will occur at two points in the afternoon. At approximately 3:30 pm, former President Jimmy Carter will make remarks, and later in the day Mayor Shirley Franklin will offer remarks.
Public Access - Extremely limited parking is available at City Hall. MARTA will provide free shuttle services from the Georgia Dome Blue Lot and the Vine City MARTA Station beginning at 10:00 am. Buses will begin departing the Dome’s Blue Parking Lot on Northside Dr. at 10 AM with a stop at the Vine City station before proceeding on to City Hall. Buses will run approximately every 20 minutes. Service to City Hall will cease at 7 PM. Buses will continue bringing patrons back from City Hall to the Vine City Station and Blue Lot until 10 PM.
Members of the general public wishing to do business in City Hall will only be allowed to access the building at the Trinity Street entrance. Once again, the public must enter the building from the Mitchell Street side for viewing purposes.
Your assistance is requested in the following areas:
1) Notifying the public of entry to the building for business on Trinity Street.
2) Notifying the public of entry to the building for viewing on Mitchell Street.
3) Notifying the public that excess packages and flowers will not be allowed; however, donations to the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation will be accepted.
4) Notifying the public of free shuttle services from the Georgia Dome and Vine City MARTA station.
5) Encouraging the public to take MARTA.
6) Out of respect to the family, the public will not be permitted to take photographs inside the Council Chamber.
