We have learned that the U.S. Attorney in Birmingham has amended an indictment against a contractor working on the city’s sewer program that includes allegations in Birmingham against U.S. Infrastructure Inc. (USI). USI is currently performing work for the City of Atlanta, but there are no allegations about their performance here in Atlanta.
As diligent agents of the City of Atlanta’s taxpayer’s dollars, we plan to review the procurement process for each of the contracts in which USI is involved to ensure there are no improprieties. In Atlanta, we have a competitive process in procurement which is designed to prevent the type of activity alleged to have occurred in Birmingham. We are committed to the highest standards of integrity in fulfilling our commitment to an effective and efficiently managed government. We stand by that commitment.
