Mitchell Street Bridge Closure

In accordance with the letter received from the State Department of Transportation, the City of Atlanta has closed the Mitchell Street Bridge effective 3:30 pm today. The Department of Public Works has placed barricades and signage to divert traffic.

Traffic headed east on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive has been routed via Elliott Street to Chapel Street. Vehicles can proceed from Chapel Street to Techwood Drive/Centennial Olympic Park Drive and back to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

The letter from the State to Mayor Shirley Franklin on January 27, 2004 cited the critical condition of the bridge, which runs over Southern Railroad between Spring Street and Elliott Street. The length of time of closure of this structure is indefinite.
