Public Works Plans to Patch 1500 Potholes In Six Weeks
As part of Mayor Shirley Franklin’s continuing effort to repair potholes, the City of Atlanta Department of Public Works (DPW) announced a plan to fill 1500 in six weeks beginning today, public works officials said.
DPW will aggressively identify and repair potholes on arterial and collector streets. DPW will eliminate potholes within a one-mile radius of Peachtree and MLK within two weeks. At the same time DPW crews will expand its efforts in the remainder of the city. Along with the dedicated pothole crews, DPW has installed patch repair equipment on its 12 dump trucks to focus on repairs citywide.
"We know that potholes are a major concern to the citizens of Atlanta. This is just one of our many programs aimed at making the public right of way safer for the traveling public," said Public Works Commissioner David E. Scott, P.E. "We’re doing an intense search and repair of potholes and also identifying issues that look like potholes but are really pavement recesses due to low manhole covers or other utilities."
Scott noted that utilities would be given a notice and deadline to repair those recesses. DPW encourages citizens to report potholes by calling (404) POTHOLE /(404) 768-4653.
