ATLANTA ANNOUNCES COMMUNITY TORCHBEARERS FOR ATHENS 2004 OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY
 

126 Torchbearers To Carry the Olympic Flame Locally When Torch Relay Passes Through Atlanta

The National Olympic Committee, Mayor’s Office, Coca-Cola and Samsung will hold a brief ceremony on Wednesday, 5 May 2004 to announce the names of people who have been selected as Olympic Torchbearers for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and Samsung.

The ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay marks the first-ever global torch relay.  The Olympic flame will begin the international portion of its journey on 4 June 2004 in Sydney, Australia, and will visit all previous Olympic Summer Games host cities, as well as visit South America and Africa for the first time.  After its 35-day journey, the Olympic flame will return to Greece where it will travel for several weeks before lighting the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games on 13 August 2004.
