Watering Restrictions in Effect Immediately Throughout City

WHAT:

Water Restrictions in effect immediately

WHEN:

Monday, June 12, 2006

WHERE:

City of Atlanta and South Fulton County

NOTES:

The Stonewall Tell tank that serves much of South Fulton County and the cities of Fairburn and Union City is again losing volume. Officials of the Department of Watershed Management have instituted restrictions on all unnecessary water use; including watering lawns, washing cars and similar activities; until further notice. Officials believe that explosive growth in the metropolitan Atlanta area and dry weather conditions are affecting water supplies across the metro area.  “We are concerned about our current and future water use,” said Commissioner Rob Hunter. “And we are taking proactive steps to ensure a sufficient supply of water for all our customers.” Recent water releases from Lake Lanier and a looming drought mean additional stress on water supplies, according to Department officials, who are urging residents to institute immediate water-conservation measures in their homes and businesses.
