“After a full day of meetings with three dozen mayors, White House staff including Cecelia Munoz and Valerie Jarrett and the House leadership including Speaker Pelosi, I am more convinced than ever that the House Bill will create 3 to 4 million jobs, provide needed support to school districts, provide funding for energy conservation, extend healthcare benefits and needed safety nets, provide job training for unemployed Atlantans, offer tax benefits for families and fund basic shovel ready infrastructure projects. This package is needed to spur the city's economy, and as mayor I am pledged to use the funding to create jobs and business opportunities. The list of benefits for the city are too numerous to list but the complete list can be found in the US Conference of Mayors analysis and documents. The funding is not intended to close Atlanta’s or any other city’s budget shortfall. Today over 164 mayors registered their enthusiastic support and joined forces to urge Congress to adopt the President's package.”
