For over a month, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) has diligently led the planning process for logistics for the Americas Competitiveness Forum that will take place Monday, June 11th, 2007 through Wednesday, June 13th, 2007 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Logistics for the event include everything from police officers stationing, food and water for public safety officials, extra radios, cars and protection services for participants.
In a true demonstration of partnership between public safety agencies, APD is collaborating with the Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, MARTA Police Department, Georgia Tech Police Department, Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency, Fulton County Police Department, DeKalb County Police Department, Georgia State Police Department and the Atlanta Department of Corrections to ensure the conference runs smoothly.
In November 2006, Atlanta was chosen as the location for the Americas Competitiveness Forum for its commitment to competitiveness and its success in leveraging public-private partnerships to foster innovation and business development. Atlanta embraces best practices and seeks to be a best-in-class city. The Department of Commerce’s choice of Atlanta as the location of the first Americas Competitiveness Forum attests to Atlanta’s success.
During the Americas Competitiveness Forum in Atlanta, Minister level government officials from the 34 countries of the Western Hemisphere will meet with representatives of the private sector, academia, and civil society to explore cutting edge ideas and best practices designed to spark innovation, increase economic prosperity, and enhance the competitiveness of the region.
“Atlanta has always welcomed people and commerce. Hosting the Americas Competitiveness Forum where officials from throughout the hemisphere will gather to discuss policies and strategies to promote free enterprise and attract investment speaks to our open doors,” said Mayor Franklin. “APD and our public safety partners have worked diligently for over a month to ensure successful management of the conference logistics and we look forward to a safe and productive conference”.
