Mayor Shirley Franklin, Department of Watershed Management officials and members of the City’s faith community will announce the results of the Department’s campaign to raise funds for the Care & Conserve program today at 10 a.m., at City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue. The Mayor attended services at six religious institutions, encouraging congregants to donate money to the program, which assists low-income Atlantans and their families with water/sewer bill payments and plumbing upgrades.
The faith community collected more than $11,600 for Care & Conserve during May and June. Participating religious institutions were:
- Mt. Carmel Baptist
- Elizabeth Baptist
- Peachtree Road United Methodist
- West Hunter Street Baptist
- Berean Seventh Day Adventist
- Radcliffe Presbyterian
- Greater Mount Calvary Baptist
- Greater Piney Grove
- Wheat Street Baptist
- Christ the King Catholic
Mount Ephraim Baptist, Ebenezer Baptist, Salem Baptist and West End Seventh Day Adventist churches have planned Care & Conserve events for later in the summer.
The Mayor will host members of the participating churches at a reception prior to the presentation of the check to Southeast Energy Assistance, the non-profit agency that administers the Care & Conserve program. Atlantans who have benefited from Care & Conserve also will be present.
