Atlanta, GA - The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency, in partnership with Georgia Department of Human Resources and Bridging the Gap, is launching an Interpreter’s Training Course at the AWDA One-Stop Center.
As Atlanta becomes increasingly more diverse, many local agencies and businesses are finding a need for interpreters in a variety of languages. The need for interpreters has increased dramatically for government agencies, hospitals, schools, churches, hotels, convention centers and the airport. The intensive 10-day training program started on January 20, 2004 and focuses on instruction in cultural competency/diversity, professional codes of conduct, social services, medical and legal terminology, disaster response and law enforcement. Enrollment is open to all bilingual language speakers in Atlanta who are unemployed or under-employed.
For more information on enrolling or on hiring individuals who have completed the training, please contact Jo Anne Paschall 404.589.3542 at AWDA or Gail Hoffman 404.657.5244 and Tony Flores 404.657.4722 at DHR.
As part of Mayor Shirley Franklin’s economic development office, The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency is a non-profit collaborative partnership between public and private organizations, which promotes job training and employment services for local residents and businesses. The AWDA One-Stop Center is located 2 blocks south of Turner Field and is open Monday - Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
