Today, Mayor Shirley Franklin re-affirmed the City's commitment to a dollar for dollar rollback of water rate increases, should Atlanta voters approve the 1% Municipal Option Sales Tax (MOST) on July 20th.
Mayor Franklin said, "On all major votes related to the water issue since last fall, the City Council has voted unanimously to provide a rollback of water rate increases, should additional resources become available to assist in paying for the federally mandated repair and upgrade of the city's water and sewer infrastructure. I have verbally expressed my support of the rollback and have signed the legislation.
Without question, the City Council and I remain committed to provide this support to the ratepayers. To restate, clarify and reaffirm that commitment, Councilmembers Caesar Mitchell and Felicia Moore introduced an amendment mandating a dollar for dollar rollback of any revenues generated and received from a voter approved 1% sales tax at the Monday May 17th Council meeting. Twelve other councilmembers signed on to co-sponsor this legislation.
I have consistently stated my support of a rollback each and every time. To suggest otherwise is a misstatement of the Council’s record, my record and the facts."
