Today, the City of Atlanta announced its partnership with United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta to disburse $5.7million in federal funds to displaced residents from the gulf coast living in Atlanta. United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta will work with 15-18 nonprofit partners in the Atlanta region, including eight partners that have already been identified. Those include:
- Hosea Feed the Hungry
- Midtown Assistance Center
- Catholic Social Services
- Housing Initiative of North Fulton
- The Impact Group
- Latin American Association
- St. Vincent de Paul
- The Sullivan Center
- MUST ministries
With the available funds, the agencies will provide families with 3 months of rental assistance, the security deposit, assistance with all utilities and furniture. The funds will help an estimated 1,500 families currently living in the City of Atlanta.
“We are starting to do what is desperately needed,” Mayor Franklin said. “We have already received a check from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for $2.8 million, and are excited to partner with United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta to efficiently disburse it to families in need as they continue to re-settle in our community.”
