A cold front that will bring in the coldest temperatures of the season is headed to Atlanta. Thursday night temperatures could dip into the mid- to low-20s, while Friday’s could potentially hit single digits.
Atlanta’s homeless services outreach workers are out on the streets making sure our homeless population is aware of the services available and all of our agencies are stretching their capacity to help during these bitterly cold days. Mayor Franklin recognizes the challenges organizations face during these tough economic times and thanks the Gateway Center, United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, the Atlanta Union Mission, Salvation Army and other Regional Partners who work year round to serve those most in need, especially this winter.
City of Atlanta Residents should take the following precautions:
- Make sure all pets are inside;
- Cover outdoor vegetation, such as azalea bushes, forsythia and hydrangeas, with plastic or cloth sheeting;
- Leave faucets – both cold and hot water – dripping to avoid frozen pipes.
Residents responsible for empty and foreclosed homes should also take appropriate measures to ensure that pipes in those buildings are protected.
