The Home Depot Foundation Signs On As Largest Partner of Greener Atlanta Initiative

Mayor Shirley Franklin today announced The Home Depot Foundation’s commitment to support the City’s “Greener Atlanta” environmental initiative. Through a $50,000 donation, The Home Depot Foundation is the largest partner supporting the initiative. Greener Atlanta is aimed at creating sound environmental programs for the City that will improve the quality of life for residents, visitors and generations to come.

As the City gears up for Arms Around Atlanta – its first official Earth Day celebration April 21 and 22 – The Home Depot Foundation’s commitment will help preserve and plant trees throughout Atlanta and provide recycled items for local parks including rubberized jogging tracks, park benches and picnic tables.

“The City of Atlanta is committed to ‘being green’ with environmental initiatives and programs that reduce operational expenses and preserve our planet,” said Mayor Franklin. “We are thrilled to partner with The Home Depot Foundation because of the expertise, resources and know how they bring to improving the health of local communities through green initiatives.”

“The City’s Greener Atlanta initiative will have a tangible impact on the hope, health and happiness of individuals and families that call Atlanta home,” said Kelly Caffarelli, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation. “We are proud to join Mayor Franklin in supporting this important initiative for the City.”
