The program reaches out to local businesses and community leaders to raise the necessary financial resources to provide first hand assistance in helping a student reach his or her dream; whether it is going to a four year college/university, a two-year college, technical school or the workforce. Last year, more than 600 area graduates received assistance with tuition for college and technical schools, laptops and other programs.
“The most effective strategy to uplift a community is to educate its youth,” said Mayor Franklin. “Atlanta flourishes because of the strong and active partnerships between government and our corporate and civic communities, and I am confident this generous donation will help us fulfill our promise to our young people and turns their dreams into reality.”
Kurt Powell, managing partner for Hunton & Williams, said, “We believe it’s important to give back to the communities in which we live and work – with volunteer service as well as financial support. “Next Step…The Atlanta Promise” is a wonderful program that offers local high school seniors opportunities they would not otherwise have had to reach their full potential.”
