The City of Atlanta and the Red Cross Respond to the Devastation from Hurricane Katrina

The City of Atlanta is supporting the American Red Cross in their role as the primary emergency responder to the devastation that we are experiencing first-hand as evacuees take shelter in our city.  The City of Atlanta is responding to needs as identified by the Red Cross and stands ready to meet demands as they become clear.

The City of Atlanta’s Adamsville Recreational Center on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive is working with the Red Cross providing temporary shelter and necessary services to the people in need.  The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency, Atlanta Public Schools, the State Department of Labor, the State Department of Family and Children Services and the Salvation Army are working jointly at the recreation center to help evacuees begin to re-establish their lives.

The City of Atlanta encourages all Metro Atlanta residents to contribute to the disaster relief through the American Red Cross. To contribute monetarily to the effort, please call 1.800.HELPNOW or go to www.atlantaredcross.org.  To volunteer with the Red Cross, please call 404.870.4440 or 404.870.4425.  To receive assistance from the Red Cross, please call 404.876.3302.
