Today, the Atlanta City Council approved and the Mayor signed the legislation to complete the annexations of Midwest Cascade and the Horseshoe Community.
The City of Atlanta’s policy has always been that anyone interested in joining the City is welcome and we are happy to welcome the residents of Midwest Cascade and the Horseshoe Community to the City of Atlanta.
On October 1, 2006, the City of Atlanta will gain approximately 700 new households with the annexation of these South West Atlanta communities.
On that day, the City will begin to deliver municipal services, such as police and fire protection; emergency 911 response; garbage, recycling and yard trimming collections, sign repair and replacement; street repaving; construction permitting; and storm removal of trees from the public right-of-way to our new residents.
This weekend, Department of Public Works employees and Atlanta Firefighters will be going throughout the neighborhoods providing City of Atlanta service information, trash receptacles and Smoke Alarm installations.
“We welcome our new residents to the City of Atlanta as they begin to enjoy and experience the excellent and quality service that our current residents are accustomed to”, said Mayor Shirley Franklin.
