City of Atlanta Moves Forward with Online Permitting

As a part of a citywide initiative to create a more effective and efficient government, The City of Atlanta is enhancing its online services.

Since January 2005, the Department of Information Technology has been working with the Department of Planning and Community Development, City Courts, Office of Revenue and Watershed Management to develop online payment services.

Online permitting is a part of a comprehensive permitting improvement initiative.

As of today, the Department of Planning and Community Development will offer customers the ability to apply for permits online and have enhanced access to the issuance of permits.

Permits are now available online for:

  • Plumbing -Commercial and Residential
  • Electrical - Commercial and Residential
  • Re-inspection for Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC and Elevators
  • Modernization of Elevators
  • General Repairs

“We are moving forward with using technology to further Atlanta’s progress,” said Mayor Shirley Franklin. "These improvements to our permitting process will make it easier for our customers to do business with the City.”

"This is an exciting time for the Department of Planning and Community Development,” said Acting Commissioner James Shelby. “My staff and I are excited to be a part of this history-making era in the City of Atlanta."
