Mayor Franklin Signs into Law Legislation Unanimously Adopted by the Atlanta City Council Reaffirming City's Commitment to Rollback Rates

Today, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin signed into law legislation, which was unanimously adopted by the Atlanta City Council, restating and re-affirming the City's commitment to rollback water and sewer rates as funds are received from various sources.

Mayor Franklin said, "I am proud to join the Atlanta City Council in re-affirming our commitment to rollback water and sewer rate increases, dollar for dollar, as the City receives revenue from other sources. We are aggressively pursuing additional federal assistance to relieve the burden on our residents and customers, as well as allowing the voters the opportunity to decide on the implementation of a Municipal Option Sales Tax (MOST), dedicated to water and sewer issues. Water and sewer rate increases will be rolled back, dollar for dollar, from all revenues received from the MOST. If adopted, the MOST will lessen the financial impact to the majority of Atlanta residents and water customers, because approximately 40% of the revenue will come from people visiting our city, and if approved,  it will last for four years."
