The City of Atlanta’s Statement on the Commercial Solicitation Ordinance

The City of Atlanta is committed to improving the quality of life for residents and visitors.  The Commercial Solicitation Ordinance is an integral component to this broader effort.  Successful implementation requires training, education and awareness.  In recent days, the City has focused its attention on the newest arrivals to our city in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, but we continue to move forward on implementation.

In the coming weeks, law enforcement will complete roll call training on enforcement provisions. Notice signs will be placed in strategic locations around the Tourist Triangle, the King Tourist Area and the City at large.  In addition, prior to enforcement in mid-October, the City will take proactive steps to raise awareness among all affected persons regarding the final contours of the program.  Law enforcement officers will actively enforce existing laws where a person is placed in fear of life or property.

Most importantly, the City will continue its outreach to the homeless population by directing persons to the Gateway Center and through the Opportunity Bond Program, which will direct an additional $20 million to homeless services.
