Mayor Shirley Franklin Announces New Appointments In the Department of Watershed Management

Effective July 1 2004, Jack Ravan will relinquish the day to day responsibilities of the Commissioner of Watershed Management and assume the responsibility of Special Advisor to the Mayor for Environmental Matters. His primary responsibilities will include issues such as regulatory compliance and facilities development for the Drinking Water Program, developing a permanent solution for handling biosolids, assistance with a new stormwater program, review of flooding issues and a long term plan beyond the current plan for Watershed.

"Working with Mayor Franklin, who I believe is the best Mayor in America, has been one of the most positive experiences in my life and I look forward to continuing to advise her on environmental issues," Jack Ravan said. Ravan added, "I have just celebrated my birthday and at this point in my life, for both personal and professional reasons, I would like to focus on the special environmental issues that will benefit the City of Atlanta and the Department of Watershed Management."

In commending Ravan, Mayor Franklin said, "There have been many significant accomplishments during Jack Ravan’s tenure, including the development of the Department of Watershed Management, reinstatement of the Bureau of Water back into the City, improved compliance with Consent Orders and Consent Decrees, recruitment and appointment of a talented team of professionals and the passage of a water and sewer rate by the Atlanta City Council. All are very significant and Jack’s leadership was essential, he will be equally as valuable in his new capacity."

Effective July 1, 2004 Rob Hunter will assume the management responsibilities for the Department of Watershed Management as Acting Commissioner. A communication to the Atlanta City Council appointing Rob Hunter to the position of Commissioner of Watershed Management will be sent to the Clerk of Council for the next City Council Meeting.
