Through a partnership between the City of Atlanta, Atlanta City Council and Zoo Atlanta, the zoo will offer free admission to 5,000 City of Atlanta residents on Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11, 2006. This partnership will give residents an opportunity to learn more about one of the City’s most exciting cultural institutions.
During “City of Atlanta Family Days”, residents can visit popular animal attractions such as the rare set of giant pandas Lun Lun and Yang Yang, the nation’s second largest collection of western lowland gorillas featuring Kuchi and her twins Kali and Kazi, the new interactive exhibit for kids “Wild Like Me”, the Wild Life Theatre Bird Show plus other specie and wildlife collections.
To qualify for free admission, valid proof of residency such as a driver’s license, state ID, voter ID or utility bill with a current address is required. One adult can accompany one additional adult and up to four children. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Residents will be admitted from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The zoo closes at 6:30 p.m.
Residents are strongly urged to take MARTA Route 97 from the Five Points Rail Station which will run directly to the zoo. Buses run from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Zoo Atlanta is located in historic Grant Park at 800 Cherokee Avenue in southeast Atlanta. Throughout the summer months, Zoo Atlanta is also offering free admission to 1,200 youths participating in the City of Atlanta’s Camp Best Friends program to promote compassion for animals though tours of fun animal exhibits and exciting hands-on experiences.
