UNPRECEDENTED LAW ENFORCEMENT AND NONPROFIT COLLABORATIVE ANNOUNCES PLANS TO CRACK DOWN ON CRIME AND EMPOWER NEIGHBORHOODS

WHEN: Details of PSN will be made public. Monday, February 24, 2003@  10:30 - 11:00 a.m.

WHERE: Corner of North Avenue and Griffin Avenue (Take MLK to Northside past the dome to North Avenue to Griffin Avenue-news conference will be held in front of neighborhood grocery on the corner.)

Why:

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a commitment to take a hard line against gun criminals through every available means to create safer more livable neighborhoods. PSN will achieve heightened coordination among federal, state, and local law enforcement, more aggressive prosecutions, and enhanced accountability through performance measures. The law enforcement offensive in Atlanta is led by the U.S. Attorney’s office in collaboration with the Atlanta Police Department, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Atlanta’s Code Enforcement department, Probation and Parole officers and others.  To ensure the sustainability of PSN, Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc (ANDP) and United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta will work in partnership with community leaders and other concerned residents to provide training and resources that empower neighborhood residents to create a safer community
