The City of Atlanta announced today that certain parking citations issued in July and August 2004 have been dismissed. The citations in question were issued by Department of Public Works’ “Parking Enforcement Officers,” prior to the appropriate legislative approval granting them authority to write parking tickets.
Commissioner David Scott said, “We apologize for the error and any inconvenience this may have caused. We are acting swiftly to rectify the problem.” The Department of Public Works (DPW) has subsequently introduced the appropriate legislation for approval by the City Council and the Mayor. In the interim, DPW will work with the court system to review all citations issued in error.
Citations issued by Atlanta Police Department personnel will not be subject to this procedure and remain valid.
The city will send a refund of all payments on dismissed tickets to the recorded owner of the ticketed vehicle. Those refunds will be processed within 45 days. If you have received a ticket in the ranges listed below and have not yet paid the fee, you do not need to take any action. However, if you would like proof that the citation has been dismissed, you may call the Court system at 404.658.6940 to request a dismissal statement by mail or you may print this page as a dismissal statement from the city website – at www.atlantaga.gov
