Mayor Kasim Reed Statement on the Passing of San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee
ATLANTA – “I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and colleague, Mayor Edwin ‘Ed’ Lee.
He became Mayor in 2011, one year after I was sworn in as Mayor of Atlanta. We became close friends, and relied on each other for counsel at tough times during the past seven years. Our cities share many of the same challenges and opportunities, and my friendship with Ed meant that we could share ideas, share our struggles and share our good days as well.
Mayor Lee served the people of San Francisco with excellence, dignity, integrity and grace. I know this loss will be felt by the City of San Francisco and his colleagues across the country for a long, long time. He will be missed.
I offer my sincere condolences to Mayor Lee’s family, friends and loved ones and to the residents of the City of San Francisco. My family and I are praying for Mayor Lee and his family today. May he rest in peace, and may his memory live on with all who knew him.”
