Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms Statement on Government Shutdown

“I am disappointed that our nation finds itself in the middle of a government shutdown, as the American people deserve a government that works for, not against them.

Congress’ inability to act means that locally, our lowest income residents could lose full access to critical services, including subsidized food and nutrition programs.  Our most vulnerable residents are the people who stand to suffer the most from inaction.

I urge the Republican Party to come to the negotiation table and work with Democrats to reach a bipartisan solution that supports our veterans, makes real investments in the fight against opioids, funds our children’s health insurance program (CHIP) and community health centers, saves pensions, and keeps our promise to protect the Dreamers.”
