Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms Joins Mayors Against LGBT Discrimination

ATLANTA- Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms today announced her official enrollment in Mayors Against LGBT Discrimination, a bipartisan coalition of U.S. municipal leaders committed to fight against the discrimination of LGBT individuals.

“The City of Atlanta is the cradle of the Civil Rights movement in America and we continue to value the protection of all human rights,” said Mayor Bottoms. “Joining Mayors Against LGBT Discrimination is another important step towards protecting the dignity and freedom of all who call Atlanta home.”

Mayors Against LGBT Discrimination is dedicated to securing inclusive nondiscrimination protections for all, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals, at all levels of government. The organization was formed in recognition of the specific role mayors play in protecting the rights and safety of residents and in advancing policies that move communities and the nation forward.

Participation in this coalition is the most recent in a series of steps Mayor Bottoms has taken to fulfill her campaign promise to build a bridge between City Hall and Atlanta’s LGBTQ community. Earlier this year the Administration announced the formation of the Mayor’s LGBTQ Advisory Board and the hiring of the City’s first fulltime employee whose work is specifically focused on understanding and addressing the needs of Atlanta’s LGBTQ stakeholders.

Mayors Against LGBT Discrimination is a program of Freedom for All Americans, the bipartisan campaign to win comprehensive LGBT non-discrimination protections nationwide.
