City of Atlanta Department of City Planning Hires Chief Bicycle Officer

ATLANTA – The City of Atlanta Department of City Planning recently hired a Chief Bicycle Officer. As part of the Office of Mobility Planning, Cary Bearn will lead efforts to enhance the public realm, strengthen Atlanta’s standing as a bike-friendly community.

CBOBearn’s role will include partnering with multiple organizations to expand infrastructure and enhance the biking environment as outlined in the soon-to-be adopted Atlanta Transportation Plan.

“We are excited about Cary Bearn stepping into the role of Chief Bicycle Officer,” said Tim Keane, Commissioner for the Department of City Planning. “Her expertise and dedication to advancing Atlanta’s bike, pedestrian, and transit climate are a vital part of making the city safer, more enjoyable, and accessible.”

Bearn holds a Master of City and Regional Planning and Master of Science with a major in Transportation Systems Engineering, both from Georgia Institute of Technology, and a BA in Biology from Williams College.

The Chief Bicycle Officer position is supported by the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation through a five-year $250,000 challenge grant to the city through the Atlanta Bike Coalition.
