The City of Atlanta Launches Inaugural Meeting of the Atlanta City Detention Center Taskforce

WHO:

Members of the Atlanta City Detention Center Taskforce

WHAT:

The City of Atlanta will host its first meeting of the Atlanta City Detention Center Taskforce. In June, Mayor Bottoms signed legislation to transform the underutilized facility into a community center for wellness and healing, skills-building, economic mobility, and crime prevention.

The Mayor has appointed three Co-Chairs to guide the work of the Taskforce: Bill McGahan, Founder of Georgia Works, Marilynn Winn, Executive Director of Women on the Rise, and Rashad Taylor, Senior Advisor to the Mayor.  The Task Force consists of 25 members who will be joined by two appointees of the City Council, an advisory group membership of nine experts intimately involved with the work, and fourteen ex officio members who bring their trusted insight, expertise, and government service.

The Taskforce and committee members will convene on a consistent basis to determine the future of the jail and reimagine the space.

WHEN:

Tuesday. July 16, 2019
4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Atlanta City Hall
Old City Council Chambers
68 Mitchell St. SW
Atlanta, GA 30303
