Mayor Bottoms’ Legislative Agenda Moves Forward

Two Additional Items Introduced to City Council

ATLANTA – Two items on Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ legislative agenda moved forward today in Atlanta City Council.

Funding to Support HomeFirst and LIFT Initiatives:

Mayor Bottoms put forth an additional $3.5 million to fund Partners for Home (PFH) programs that provide critical services for the homeless through the HomeFirst and LIFT initiatives.

The City has worked closely with PFH since April 2020 to successfully coordinate LIFT, a comprehensive response and recovery effort to protect and house the unsheltered. By leveraging general funds, dedicated stimulus funds and raising $5.1 million in philanthropic dollars, PFH has been able to house nearly 1,000 families and individuals.

The additional funding will provide non-congregate hotel operations, retain additional operations for Evolution Center and Donna Center, maintain a dedicated outreach team, and provide rapid rehousing for 100 homeless households.

Agreement for Solid Waste Services Supplemental Staffing with Georgia Works, Inc.:

Mayor Bottoms also put forth legislation to extend an agreement with Georgia Works, Inc. to help alleviate staffing shortages in the Department of Public Works - Office of Solid Waste Services (DPR-OSWS).

Since March 2020, the Solid Waste Services Division has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, causing staffing shortages and service disruptions in the collection of illegal dumping, recycling and yard trimmings.

The DPW-OSWS will extend its agreement with Georgia Works, Inc. to provide quality services to our communities. The agreement will remain in effect through June 30, 2022.
