Statement on Passing of Mrs. Bertha Darden

ATLANTA—Mayor Andre Dickens issued the following statement on the passing of Mrs. Bertha Darden.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of an Atlanta community leader. Mrs. Bertha Darden was a trusted and unifying voice for the Peoplestown community and a source of inspiration for many.  She and some of her neighbors gained local acclaim when they challenged an eminent domain demand by the City. Through the process, Mrs. Darden remained a stoic, steadfast and trusted voice. While I wish it were under different circumstances, I got to know her and her family as the City worked toward a settlement. Mrs. Darden was always candid, fair, and a woman of her word, which I grew to admire and respect. On behalf of the City of Atlanta, I send sincere condolences and our support to Mr. Robert Darden and the Darden family.”
