City of Atlanta Winter Weather Updates
ATLANTA— The City of Atlanta continues to closely monitor the ongoing winter weather conditions and remains committed to ensuring the safety of its residents.
Your safety is our priority - please avoid driving and allow crews to treat the roads. Please stay inside and use extra caution if you must travel. Due to the freezing temperatures, some backroads are not clear.
Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT)
- ATLDOT pretreated with brine before the artic blast on Sunday on all priority roads to help mitigate the impact of winter conditions.
- Crews have been actively treating roads with salt since Tuesday.
- The department advises residents to stay off the roads if possible to prevent accidents, while ATLDOT facilitates ongoing snow removal and icy treatment efforts.


Precautionary Measures:
- Do not travel unless absolutely necessary.
- If you must travel, exercise extreme caution.

Warming Centers are Open
Warming centers are open through Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
Locations:
- Central Park Recreation Center– 400 Merritts Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308
- Selena S. Butler Park – 98 WM Holmes Borders Dr SE, Atlanta, GA 30312 (Women and children only)
- Old Adamsville Recreation Center– 3404 Delmar Ln NW, Atlanta, GA 30331 (Overflow location)
Activation times are subject to change based on updated forecasts from the National Weather Service.
City of Atlanta Offices and Facility Opening
All City of Atlanta government offices will have a delayed start time of 10:00 AM on tomorrow Thursday, January 23, 2025.
Department of Public Works (DPW) Updates
- Garbage (no recycling) and bulk collections resume Thursday January 23, 2025.
- There will be service delays throughout the week.
- Garbage carts should be placed curbside until collected. Garbage collections will occur through Saturday.
- The regular collection schedule resumes Monday, January 27.

Water main breaks occur due to a variety of factors including changing weather after freezing temperatures.
