NOTICE OF PROPERTY TAX HEARING FOR THE STITCH SPECIAL SERVICES DISTRICT
ATLANTA—The City of Atlanta will hold public hearings for the purpose of hearing written and oral comments from the public concerning the adoption of millage rates, for the purposes of funding the Stitch project.
The Stitch is an ambitious infrastructure project that will cap Atlanta's downtown interstate with a dynamic, community-centric park. Phase 1 includes a broad tree canopy, an event pavilion, a playground and an interactive water feature. Phase 1 construction is funded and includes approximately 5 acres of new park and 8 miles of street improvements that are scheduled to begin construction in 2026. Future phases will include open lawns, public art, an amphitheater, skate and dog park; ultimately adding an estimated total greenspace area of 16.7 acres. The project will unite the city with new parks, street improvements, and other programs serving as a catalyst for new development to reconnect neighborhoods in the heart of the city.
The City of Atlanta tentatively plans to adopt a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes of up to two (2) mills on assessed properties approximately ½ mile from the proposed Stitch project, within the proposed Atlanta Stitch Special Services District (the “SSD”). Revenue generated from this assessment will fund activities benefiting the SSD including, but not limited to, operations, maintenance, administration, programming, and capital improvements associated with the Stitch project. The map of the proposed SSD is available at https://thestitchatl.com/project/implementation.
All interested citizens are encouraged to attend and to submit comments. A copy of this information, the millage rates, and additional background materials are available for public inspection upon request via e-mail: municipalclerk@atlantaga.gov
